Quick answer

Is a refurbished computer worth buying?

Yes, if it is checked properly and comes with a warranty. A refurbished business-grade laptop or desktop costs much less than new and handles study, office work and browsing well. Check that the processor supports Windows 11, ask for the battery health, and buy from a shop that will fix it if something goes wrong.

Buying guide

How do I choose a good refurbished computer?

Four checks that separate a good refurbished buy from a problem.

1

Check Windows 11 support first

Windows 11 officially needs an Intel 8th-generation Core or AMD Ryzen 2000 series processor or newer, plus TPM 2.0. Older machines will stop receiving security updates, so they are a poor buy for anything online.

Look for the processor model on the spec sheet and ask us to confirm it is on the supported list.

2

Prefer business-grade models

Laptops and desktops built for companies use sturdier hinges, better keyboards and parts that stay available for years. They are designed for daily use, which is why they make good refurbished buys.

A business laptop with an SSD often feels faster than a new budget laptop with a slow drive.

3

Ask about the battery

A laptop battery loses capacity with every charge cycle. A battery at 80% health or more still gives most of its original runtime; a weaker one is fine if the laptop mostly stays plugged in.

Need more runtime later? See battery replacement.

4

Watch for ex-company locks

Laptops from companies sometimes stay enrolled in remote management or keep a BIOS password. When you first switch it on, it should go to a normal Windows setup without asking for a company account.

We remove these locks during our checks; ask to see it start up before you pay.

See all FAQs
What is the difference between refurbished and second-hand?

A second-hand computer is sold as it is. A refurbished one has been checked, cleaned, repaired where needed and freshly set up before sale, and usually comes with a seller warranty.

Are refurbished laptops reliable?

A properly checked business-grade laptop is generally reliable, because these models are built for years of daily office use. The battery is the part most likely to have worn, which is why we share its health before you buy.

What warranty do refurbished computers have?

Refurbished systems from Alvyntra carry our warranty of 90 days on parts and labour. The terms, including what is not covered, are on our terms & warranty page.

Does a refurbished computer come with Windows?

We confirm the Windows licence status of each unit and tell you exactly what is installed before you buy. Most business machines carry a licence tied to the hardware.

What do the grades A, B and C mean?

The grade describes cosmetic condition only: A shows very light use, B shows light scratches and C has more noticeable marks. Every grade is fully tested and working.

Can I upgrade a refurbished laptop?

Often, yes. Many business laptops accept more RAM and a larger SSD. We can fit upgrades before handover; see upgrades.

Is a refurbished laptop good for online classes?

Yes. A checked Core i5 class laptop with 8–16 GB RAM, an SSD and a working webcam and mic handles video classes, documents and browsing comfortably.
