Quick answer

Which laptop should I buy?

For study and office work, choose a laptop with a recent Core i5 or Ryzen 5 class processor, 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD and a Full HD IPS screen. Creators need 32 GB and a colour-accurate display. Gamers need a dedicated graphics card and good cooling. Many thin laptops cannot be upgraded, so buy enough RAM now.

Buying guide

How do I choose the right laptop?

Four checks that matter more than the sticker on the palm rest.

1

Decide how portable it must be

If you carry it every day, weight and battery life matter more than raw power: aim for 1.2–1.6 kg and a laptop that lasts a full day. If it mostly stays on a desk, a heavier 15–16 inch model gives a bigger screen and better cooling for the money.

Check that it charges over USB-C. One charger for phone and laptop is a real convenience.

2

Buy enough RAM now

Many thin laptops have memory soldered to the board, so it can never be upgraded. 16 GB is the sensible minimum for study and office work in 2026; creators and gamers should look at 32 GB.

Ask us whether a model has a free RAM slot or a second SSD slot before you buy.

3

Look closely at the screen

You look at it all day. Prefer an IPS or OLED panel at Full HD or higher with around 300 nits brightness or more. Avoid dim, washed-out TN panels. Creators should check colour coverage (100% sRGB or more).

A matte screen copes better with bright rooms and window glare.

4

Think about after-sales

Laptops get dropped, spilled on and worn out. Check the manufacturer's warranty terms and how service works near you. A local shop that can repair screens, batteries and charging ports saves time later.

Laptop questions

Laptops & notebooks FAQs

Short answers first. Ask us anything else in store or on WhatsApp.

See all FAQs
How much RAM does a laptop need in 2026?

16 GB is the comfortable minimum for study and office work with many browser tabs and video calls. 8 GB still works for very light use but feels slow quickly. Creators and gamers should choose 32 GB.

Is an i5 or Ryzen 5 laptop enough for college?

Yes, for most courses. A recent Core i5 or Ryzen 5 class processor handles documents, coding, presentations and online classes easily. Engineering, design or video courses may need a dedicated graphics card or more RAM, so check the course requirements.

Can I upgrade a laptop’s RAM and storage later?

Sometimes. Many thin laptops have soldered RAM that cannot be changed, while larger laptops often have a free slot. Most have an M.2 SSD slot that can be upgraded. We check the exact model before you buy.

Should I buy a gaming laptop or a gaming desktop?

A gaming desktop gives you more performance for the same money, runs cooler and quieter, and is easy to upgrade later. A gaming laptop makes sense only if you need to carry it, for example between home and hostel.

Who handles warranty repairs on a new laptop?

New laptops are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, usually through the brand's authorised service. We explain the terms when you buy. Out of warranty, we repair screens, batteries, charging ports and liquid damage in-house; see our services.

Is a refurbished laptop a good idea?

A checked, business-grade refurbished laptop can be excellent value for students and offices. Make sure the processor supports Windows 11 and ask for the battery health. Ours carry a warranty of 90 days on parts and labour. See refurbished computers.
