How do I know if my laptop battery needs replacing?

Is a swollen laptop battery dangerous?
Yes. Swelling means gas has built up inside the cells, and a damaged lithium battery can overheat or catch fire. Stop using and charging the laptop, do not press or puncture the battery, and bring it in so it can be removed safely.
Can a loose charging port be fixed without replacing the motherboard?
Usually, yes. Many laptops have the DC jack on a separate cable or small board that can be replaced on its own. Where the jack is soldered to the motherboard, we replace the socket itself and explain the extra work in your quote.
Can I use my laptop with the charger only, without a battery?
Many laptops will run from the adapter alone, but some reduce performance without a battery and any power cut will switch the laptop off instantly. It is fine as a short-term fix for a dead battery, not for a swollen one, which should be removed.
Is it bad to keep my laptop plugged in all the time?
Modern laptops stop charging when full, so it is not dangerous, but staying at 100% and running warm does age the battery faster. If your laptop maker's app offers a charge limit (often around 80%), turning it on helps the battery last longer.
