Quick answer

Stop using the drive straight away, because every new file and every restart can make recovery harder. Bring the laptop, desktop or drive to us and we assess it before any work begins. Whether your files can be recovered depends on the type and extent of the damage, so we explain what is realistic and quote first.

Before you bring it in, please don't…keep restarting the computer, install recovery software on the same drive, copy new files onto it, or run disk repair tools such as CHKDSK. If a hard drive is clicking or grinding, switch it off and leave it off. Never open a hard drive: dust inside can destroy the platters.

When do you need data recovery?

These are the situations we see most often.

  • Files deleted by mistake, or the Recycle Bin emptied
  • Drive or partition formatted by accident
  • Windows says “You need to format the disk before you can use it”
  • External hard drive, pen drive or memory card not opening
  • Hard drive clicking, grinding or beeping
  • “No bootable device” or the laptop stuck on the logo
  • SSD suddenly missing from the computer
  • Files that open as gibberish or show as 0 bytes

How does data recovery work?

  1. Assess

We check the drive without writing anything to it, and identify whether the fault is logical (deleted, formatted, corrupted) or physical.

  2. Explain & quote

You hear what is realistic for your drive, the price and the turnaround before any recovery work starts.

  3. Recover

Where the drive allows, we work from a copy of it rather than the original, to avoid extra wear on a weak drive.

  4. Check & hand over

You check the recovered files, then take them home on a drive of your choice.

What does this service cover?

Hard drives & SSDs

Laptop and desktop drives: SATA hard drives, SATA SSDs and NVMe SSDs.

External & portable media

External hard drives, USB pen drives and SD or microSD memory cards.

Deleted, formatted & corrupted data

Logical recovery when the drive still works but files or partitions are lost.

Data transfer

Moving your files from an old or failing computer to a new one, so nothing is left behind.

Backup set-up

An external drive, a cloud backup or both, set to run automatically so you are protected next time.

Laptops that won't start

Copying your files straight from the drive when the laptop itself has a power or board fault.

What we can't promise

  • A guaranteed result. Recovery depends on the damage, and some data is simply gone.
  • Files that have been overwritten by new data, or deleted from an SSD where TRIM has already cleared them.
  • Encrypted drives (for example BitLocker) without the password or recovery key.
  • Drives with severe internal damage that need a specialist clean-room lab. We tell you if yours is one of these.

What are the chances of getting my files back?

It depends mostly on what went wrong. This is the honest picture; we confirm it for your drive after assessment.

What is the best way to back up a laptop?

Use the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of important files, on two different types of storage, with one kept away from home or the office.

Backup optionGood forWatch out for
External hard drive or SSDFull backups of photos, videos and work files; no monthly feeKeep it unplugged between backups so ransomware or a power surge can't reach it
Cloud storage (OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud)Automatic, off-site copies of documents and phone photosFree space is limited; large libraries need a paid plan and a decent connection
Second internal driveQuick local copies on a desktopSame machine, same risk from theft, spills or electrical faults

Data recovery FAQs

Can data be recovered from a dead hard drive?

Sometimes. If the drive's electronics or file system have failed, files can often be recovered; if the read heads or platters are damaged, it needs specialist clean-room work and the outcome is uncertain. We assess your drive and tell you honestly before you pay for recovery.

How much does data recovery cost in Kolkata?

The cost depends on the type of failure, the drive's capacity and how long the recovery takes. Simple logical recoveries cost far less than physical ones. We quote after assessing the drive, typically in the ₹500 – ₹5,000 range for common cases.

Can I get my files back if my laptop won’t turn on?

Usually, yes. A laptop that won't power on often has a fault on the motherboard or power circuit while the storage drive is fine. We can remove the drive and copy your files to another drive, then quote separately for fixing the laptop.

Can deleted files be recovered from an SSD?

It is harder than with a hard drive. Most SSDs use a feature called TRIM, which clears deleted data soon after you delete it. If you act straight away and stop using the computer, there is a better chance, but we cannot promise a result.

Should I try free data recovery software first?

For a simple accidental deletion on a healthy drive, it can work. Install the software on a different drive and save recovered files to a different drive, never the one you are recovering from. Don't use software on a drive that clicks, is not detected or keeps disconnecting.

Will you look at my personal files?

Only as much as needed to confirm the recovery worked, such as checking that a few files open. We don't browse or share your data, and you can tell us which folders matter most so we check only those.

How can I stop this from happening again?

Keep at least one automatic backup on an external drive or cloud service, and check it now and then. We can set this up for you when you collect your files, or as part of a business AMC for office computers.
